One Future, No Hunger World Vision

There is power in giving up your time in service to others, it’s so inspiring! Because we make a change in our community.  When I joined World Vision volunteer two years ago, I learned more about eradicating poverty and hunger. So here I am again, attending World Vision’s biggest movement called The Hunger Famine 2017 Movement. This year, the theme is called One Future, No Hunger.
Perhaps some of you may have the same passion as me, or it may not be. As for me, I volunteer because I enjoy serving my community – To help children to have a better future. It feels good to give back to the community and it’s fun! Because I am contributing to something worthwhile.

Who is World Vision?

In my previous post, I had briefly explained about World Vision and the scope of what they do. If you have missed it, no problem I am gonna explain it again.
WORLD VISION is an international Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children and families to overcome extreme poverty and injustice.

What do they do?

They work to promote human transformation, seek justice for the oppressed and demonstrate the love of God for all people. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

What is a 30-hour famine?

Many of my friends had asked me, how does this 30-Hour Famine works? See, we as volunteers will experience hunger firsthand, while raising funds to care for children who face this stark reality every day — going to bed hungry. Yep, you heard that right, we will not partake in food for 30 long hours! It is a global youth movement against hunger and poverty. Participants raise money by getting sponsored to give up solid food or something they love for 30 hours straight.

During this period of fasting, World Vision provides loads of activities to help make this a totally fun, educational, and life-changing experience. They also invite an international artist who is the ambassadors World Vision, to entertain our fellow volunteers.
Personally, the Famine experience gave me a chance to do something about this unacceptable tragedy — to stand together and serve the hungry in Jesus’ name. Your act of participating can give real and lasting hope to families living in poverty by doing the Famine. And in the process, you’ll draw closer to God and each other. And I guess, that’s how it drew to find my adopted son. Through World Vision!

Hunger Facts

In 2014, 16,000 children younger than 5 died every day — most from preventable causes. It’s estimated that nearly half of these deaths were tied to hunger. (That’s about one every 10 seconds).

Most of these kids died not from starvation, but from malnutrition — meaning too long without the right kind of food. Eating just enough to stay alive weakened their bodies so much that disease could strike the final blow.

Hello from the other side!

Being a volunteer is something very dear to me – it overwhelms me to see how there are many participants who come together to make this campaign successful. If you are a social worker/volunteer I have something to say to you, ‘Social workers are a unique group of people who helps those who feel for the helpless‘.
