Let’s Rise To Fight Hunger

Today I’ve decided to share my thoughts on hunger. Have you ever thought about what it’s like to not have food? I am sure that most people do not have to worry about being hungry everyday, but there are people who do (even as you read now). There are currently 925 million people that are starving in the world today.

The hunger issue is real and this is a global urgency. I have always been a part of the community service to help the orphans and under privilege for years now. However, I wasn’t aware about the global crisis of hunger until I came across the World Hunger Education Service (WHES & HUNGER NOTES) website early this year. I knew there was hunger, and it moved my heart so much  that I decided to find an organization that shares similar objectives in my country – Malaysia.

It’s not for long later, I found the perfect organisation that caters to my desires to learn more about hunger & poverty, and how I could help to make a difference. I signed up with World Vision Malaysia, to join fight hunger! – As a 30 hours famine volunteer.

WHAT IS 30 HOUR FAMINE?

The 30 Hour Famine is about giving something up for 30 hours. Fund-raise and raise awareness for issues of hunger and poverty. Every dollar you raise counts and every person who hears what you have to say can join and make a difference. You can choose what you want to give up, such as: Food, Netflix, furniture and Social Media.

I personally gave up on food, just to feel the pinch of not having food for 30 long hours. As the time toils and move, the hunger started kicking in, not only for me but for the rest of the volunteers. But we kept our spirits high and told ourselves, we will accomplish this successfully.IMG_7292[1] (The smile on our faces shows it all!)

The co-coordinator of the hunger campaign told,’tonight when you sleep, you’ll need to keep in mind that there are many children that is sleeping in hunger this very second, just the way you are feeling it‘. It really did broke my heart, and I fell to my knees thanking God for the life I have. Then I asked myself, ‘how can I be His hands & feet to help those kids who are in need, to be a change and make a change?’ Since then, I became a famine volunteer and embark a beautiful journey to stop the global hunger movement. I never turned back ever-since!

Yes, make their hunger your fight too. If being a volunteer is too much to handle in your life for the moment, no problem. The least you can do is make it a priority to NOT WASTE FOOD. A simple act of kindness sparks a thousands of hope into someone else’s life.

The 30 hour famine had been a success and I saw the perspective

of hunger in a different eyes. Many volunteers came in, to make a difference. And indeed it was a difference.
