HOW TO: USE COLOR-CORRECTING CONCEALERS

There’s just too many techniques that’s blooming in the make-up industry!  Right after contouring, highlighting or strobingsomeone is just discovering new ways to improvise the way we look on our faces and hey! that’s not bad at all. Just like highlighting/contouring/strobing are techniques rather than trends, so is colour-correction.

Those days, make-up artists would use one uniform neutral/nude concealer to cover up 1/2 of our skin concerns, NOW with the bursting demand in the make-up world beauty lovers have adopted color-correctors “CC“. The latest and greatest upgrade comes in the form of a concealer—more specifically, multiple concealers. This CC discovery is super helpful and the product is formulated in various shades of colors such as purple, green, yellow, orange etc.. Each color specifies our skin concerns and works to vanish the area with the ‘famous strategic color theory‘.

If you’re still unsure about what I’m talking about, fear not. Once you figure out whether you need colour correction, and then what type, it’s really very simple – you would be a PRO beauty queen! Take a look at the color chart below:

On the color wheel, colors that are opposite of each other are complimentary colors.  If you combine them, they make a brownish color because they neutralized each other. When you’re applying makeup, using a complimentary color – It will neutralize the blemish that you’re trying to cover, in simpler words… makes it easier to hide!

⇒ WHAT COLOR CORRECTS WHAT?

  1. Orange -corrects under-eye discoloration, especially those very deep-blue dark circles. Women with darker skin tones can use orange concealer to hide under eye circles and other blemishes.
  2. Green -neutralizes redness and brightens (this color is best for covering acne and redness). If you have widespread redness, (rosacea, windburn or sunburn), then a color correcting green will be the best to reduce redness and give an even toned base for flawless foundation application.
  3. Yellow typically hides blue and/or purple areas like broken capillaries, age spots & eyelids. This works well on olive or tan skin.
  4. Pink -corrects a blue tone on skin/lightens darkened areas like under-eye circles and acne scars. This color is meant to add brightness and life to dull skin.
  5. Lavender/Purple/Lilacbest suited for eliminating any unwanted yellow undertones. If you are of Asian, Hispanic, or Mediterranean descent, you shouldn’t feel tempted to de-yellow yourself, by all means make lilac your friend!

TIPS FOR USING :

Bright hues correct color THEREFORE cover it with your flesh-tone liquid foundation or sheer concealer. These are all meant to be worn under makeup. Always REMEMBER to use sheer concealer when you’re layering over a corrector because you don’t want the end product to look too thick, especially around your eyes.

MY FAVORITES :

#1 Nyx Cosmetics Color Correcting Concealer

The palette has six shades: yellow, mint green, purple, peachy-pink and two neutral shades, one of which is a relatively good match for natural skin tone, and the other that I’d prefer to use as a light contouring shade. The fun part of this product is, it comes with various color hues & it’s quite affordable too (12$)!

#2 MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Personally, this is my favorite product! This palette comes with four concealers and two corrector shades to match any skin tone. My concealer shade is in Medium Deep:  NC40, NC42, NW40, NW43, Rich Yellow, Burnt Coral. I have picked the variant “Medium Deep” because it works perfectly on my skin. I believe the shade of “Medium” and “Medium Deep” suits best on most of the Indian skin tones. This product is totally worth the price, it’s a little expensive yet I’d assure you it’s NEVER wrong when it comes to MAC!

Both these products are travel-friendly compact and you can place it into your handbag without worrying about the product smearing in your bag.
