It’s entirely a different feel altogether. Volunteering is a scary thing to do, and although it makes you feel good about yourself, you may have worries about committing yourself to help other people. No one ever wants to do a bad job when they volunteer their time, and you may be nervous about volunteering with a disabled person or persons for a variety of reasons. If you’ve never been around individuals with disabilities before you may feel uncomfortable at first because you don’t know how to respond to their personal problems or situation. But the truth is that it doesn’t have to be scary.

Over time you will learn how to handle any situation and you’ll learn to see that these people have the same fears, jokes, hopes, dreams, and frustrations as you do. You may also be fearful because the work you do with the disabled will impact their lives. But the fact is that your presence, even if you make a mistake, will help to make their lives much better simply because you cared enough to help.

Things You Can Do to Help People With Disabilities

If you’re interested in volunteering to help people with disabilities there are many different things that you can do. But it starts with knowing what organizations serve disabled individuals. You can do a search on the internet to find a local charitable organization in your area that services individuals with disabilities. Some of the most common volunteer jobs include reading to the blind, delivering food to those who cannot leave their homes, playing games with individuals in assisted living centres, and becoming a big brother or big sister to a child with disabilities that needs someone to spend time with them and help them lead a normal, fulfilling childhood.

There are also many other things that you can do to help individuals who have a disability. If you’re not comfortable with one on one contact you can do volunteer work for organizations that support these individuals. You can make phone calls, answer the phones, distribute mail, write letters, campaign, meet with your councilmen, and do other projects and activities that help to further the cause of these organizations and get more services and access for those who cannot do this for themselves.

Most importantly, when you’re reaching out to help individuals who have a disability, it is important for you to recognize that you are making a difference in someone’s life. You’re making a change for the better in your own life as well. Allow yourself to feel compassion and to grow and change while you’re helping others and you just might find your true calling is in helping those who need you the most.

How To Stay Single and Happy

I often share this word to people I meet in my life that ‘your singleness is a gift, make good use of it until your next GIFT comes along’. Some people find it tough to stay single and constantly needs a partner with them while some are busy chasing their dreams and maximize this moment to first love themselves. But the question is, how can one stay single and still find happiness from within?

I’ve been thinking lately that the time we have, to stay single, is really the time we have to get good at being alone. But how good is being alone do we really want to be? Isn’t there a danger that you’ll get so good at being single, so set in the ways that you’ll miss out on the chance to be with somebody great?

Here are 7 reasons to stay single and be happier with yourself.

  • Being single gives you time to be by yourself, with yourself.

This is the time to reconnect with yourself, a time where you can talk to yourself, debating all the questions and answers that are bouncing in your head. This is the time of reflection and a time of acceptance and letting go, which brings me to the second point…

  • If you don’t let go of the past, you will never appreciate the present.

Yes, cherish your memories of your exes, but leave them in the past. I once read a quote saying ‘the past is a good place to visit, but not a good place to stay’ so stop clinging to your past and let it go. Live for today and plan for tomorrow. That means creating new experiences and adventures for today!

  • Don’t wait to be in a relationship to pursue your life goals

How would being in a happy relationship change your life? Maybe you’d carry yourself with less shame. Maybe you’d give yourself permission to relax. Maybe you’d stop getting eyelash extensions. Whatever those behaviors are, start doing those things now. You don’t need someone to validate you to pursue your goals. You are your biggest success!

  • Rely on yourself. Do things alone.

This sounds obvious, I know, but a lot of people are afraid to do things by themselves. Go to the movies. Have a meal. Go shopping. It’s going to be okay…I promise you will survive.

It’s weird at first. But once the weirdness washes away, it becomes freedom that you don’t often have. You get to be on your own schedule and have the chance to spend as much time as you want to do whatever it is that you want to do — all while being in a new place. Explore your invasion.

  • Fail big, make mistakes.

Live your life, regardless of whether or not you are part of a couple. You will undoubtedly screw up at times, but it’s okay to live your life for you. You shouldn’t have to wait for another person to be able to make moves. Take yourself out on Valentine’s Day or go out for drinks with friends. Try out something new. If it doesn’t work out it’s still an experience to learn from, after all, life is a great wheel of lessons and experience – the good and bad.

  • Learn to feel.

This is another obvious one but it’s very necessary too. Don’t let feelings build up. Are you disappointed, angry, sad, jealous, or excited? Whatever it is, acknowledge it. Decide what it means and what you’re going to do with this knowledge. Is it a hopelessly single night? Do you want to cry about it? Do it. It’s okay and you’ll likely feel better afterward.

Some people take baby steps to settle down. Some people refuse to settle at all. Sometimes, it’s not statistics. It’s just chemistry. And sometimes just because a relationship is over, that doesn’t mean the love ends.

The thing about being single is, you should cherish it. Because in a week, or a lifetime of being alone, you may only get one moment. One moment, when you are not tied up in a relationship with anyone. A parent, a pet, a sibling, a friend. One moment, when you stand on your own, really truly single. And then, it’s gone.

Don’t be afraid to be single. Use this time of your singleness to develop yourself into the type of person you want to be. Learn who you are without relying on another person to complete you. Because if you can’t stand to be alone with yourself, why should someone else be expected to? 


How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Did you know that you should be cleaning your makeup brushes? The reality is, some people never wash their makeup brushes. Most women that I know always skip or rarely wash their makeup brushes or probably do not know the underlining issues that could happen on your skin.

Washing your makeup brushes should be a regular part of your beauty routine. When you use your brushes, bits of makeup, oil, dirt, and even bacteria can get trapped in the bristles. So while it might seem basic, skipping this step can lead to clogged pores, pesky breakouts, and acne issues. So learning how to properly clean them is one of the best ways to protect your investment.

Luckily, cleaning your makeup brushes is quick and easy. The first step to keeping your brushes clean is picking up a daily brush cleaner and spritzing it on your brushes after each use (I like Sephora’s Daily Brush Cleaner). Once a week, it’s time for deep cleaning. (Note that your brushes will need a few hours to dry after a deep cleaning, so I’d recommend washing them after you’ve applied your makeup that day.)

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

Here’s the right way to deep clean your makeup brushes…

You will need:

  • Brush cleaning mat
  • Gentle clarifying brush soap or baby shampoo (I used my face cleanser)
  • Your sink
  • A clean towel tissue
  • Disinfection spray

Instructions:

  1. Begin by running your brushes under lukewarm water, rinsing out all of the residual makeup. Try to focus on the actual bristles while avoiding the part of the brush where the handle meets the head, as this can loosen the glue over time
  2. Squirt the facial cleanser on the brush cleansing mat, and gently swirl your brush tip on the mat. If you need to, you can also swirl the brush in the palm of your hand to work up a lather.
  3. Rinse the brush tip under running water once again. Repeat steps two and three until the water runs clear from the brush,
  4. Use a cloth to wipe your brush clean/fingertips, reshaping the bristles as you go.
  5. Lay your brushes flat on a cloth to dry or leave them out to dry
Leaving your brushes in bad form means they’re unable to perform as well as they would if cleaned and fresh.

How often do you need to wash your brushes?

  • I would recommend cleaning your makeup brushes at least once a month, ideally once a week. Pick one night a week – mine are Sundays, it’s a good day for doing chores before the week gets started—and take five minutes to clean your brushes out.

How to store your makeup brushes after wash?

Keep your brushes covered when not in use. Your makeup brushes will likely last longer if you store them correctly. Store your brushes in a closed container to prevent pollutants like dust and dirt from landing on the bristles and eventually onto your skin.

And there you have it! Your makeup brushes will be as clean a whistle. It’s also worth mentioning that there are specially formulated brush shampoos on the market. A gentle clarifying or baby shampoo will do the trick just fine though.

Beach Skincare Routine To Avoid Sunburn

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, in our opinion—yes, we’re talking about beach season! Whether you’re planning a weeklong getaway to a secluded resort or you’re simply taking a day trip with your BFFs, one thing’s for certain: Maintaining your skin care routine while you’re relaxing on the sand and listening to the waves crash behind you is definitely a must.

To help you make the most of your beachside beauty routine, below I will introduce you to your beach days skin care essentials like sunscreen, moisturizer, and facial cleanser as well as tips and tricks to protect your skin from the sun and sand.

Beach skincare tip #1: Apply Broad-spectrum sunscreen before getting there

OK, so this is probably a no-brainer to you by now, but hear me out. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen before heading to the beach and taking other sun protection measures should be your top skincare priority. That’s because spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. So, to decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen formulated with a broad-spectrum SPF50+++ value of 15 or higher or take other sun protection measures, too. These include limiting your time in the sun (especially during the sun’s peak hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses.

Beach skincare tip #2: Reapply, reapply, reapply

It’s not enough to slather on the sunscreen before going to the beach. Reapplication is super important, too. I once read from The Skin Cancer Foundation that states y’all should reapply sunscreen every two hours. Soaking under the sun or taking a dip in the ocean? Use a water-resistant sunscreen and reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, plus anytime you get out of the water and towel off. Be sure to stock your beach bag with a tube or two so that it’s easily accessible throughout the day.

Beach skincare tip #3: Pay attention to your lips

One area that a lot of people tend to overlook when it comes to sun protection is the lips. So, show your pout some love by applying a lip balm formulated with broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Beach skincare top #4: Go makeup-free for the day

Since you’re going to be re-applying sunscreen every couple of hours while you’re out at the beach, skip the makeup. You don’t want anything getting in the way of your relaxation and having to worry about touching up your makeup every time you reapply sunscreen would certainly do that. If you want to wear a little makeup, I would recommend L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Lock Makeup Primer which blurs imperfections and keeps oil at bay. Perfect for the summer heat!

Ah, we know that soaking by the sunshine feels good at the moment especially after being cooped up under heavy sweaters all winter long. However, sunscreen alone will not offer you sufficient protection from the sun. It’s important to take other sun protection measures such as seeking shade during the sun’s peak hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Let’s be real though, if you’re not a morning person, the chances of you getting to the beach much earlier than that are probably pretty slim, right? So, stick an umbrella into the sand and park yourself under it for some time in the shade.

Beach skincare tip #6: Break Out Your Summer Accessories

Other ways you can help protect yourself from UV rays are by wearing UV-blocking sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat. Consider this your excuse to buy some new accessories! Looking cute while staying sun safe? Yes, please!

Beach skincare tip #7: Wear A Rash Guard While You Swim

If you’re a surfer girl or you just like getting your feet wet—consider wearing a rash guard while you’re in the water. I would recommend you to cover up with clothing while you’re out in the sun, and you can buy a rash guard with long sleeves to protect more of your skin when you’re taking a dip.

Even the most diligent of sunscreen users can have a mishap—we’ve all been there. If you’re at the beach and notice you’re starting to get a sunburn, there are a few measures you can take!

  • Step 1: Head indoors, ASAP! You don’t want to expose your skin to any more sun right now.
  • Step 2: Cool things down. It could help to take cold baths or showers. One thing you want to avoid is staying in the shower for too long, as this can be drying. You should also steer clear of harsh soaps, which could irritate your skin further. Applying cold compresses might also help relieve some of the pain.
  • Step 3: Use moisturizer. Once you’re out of the shower, gently pat your skin dry (no harsh rubbing—ouch!) and apply a moisturizer to damp skin.
  • Step 4: Say hello to aloe vera. When applied to the skin, aloe vera can help provide soothing relief if you have a sunburn.
  • Step 5: Put on loose clothes. Wear loose, soft, breathable clothing to help avoid uncomfortable rubbing between your clothes and sunburned skin.

There are certain universal aspirations we’re all hoping to attain in our lifetime. We all want happiness, success, love, and prosperity. Most of us believe that if we could just do things a little better, improve ourselves a little more, we would become a better person capable of achieving our dreams.

Sounds good, right? Who doesn’t want to be a better person? The truth is, none of us is perfect and we never will be. But that doesn’t mean we should give up on self-improvement — we are all on a journey of becoming the person we want to be. 

So the day you start to decide that when you are ready to believe in what you think and do. And on that day you will need to believe in yourself what you are capable of.

Acting on principles, in ways that you respect, is another important quality to foster as you develop a higher level of individuality. Make a concerted effort to maintain personal integrity in your life by insisting that your actions correspond to your words. When our actions do not match our words, we are more vulnerable to attacks from our critical inner voice and less likely to respect ourselves.

By challenging your critical inner voice and stop comparing yourself to others, you can begin to get a feeling for your own self-worth. By pursuing activities that are meaningful to you and acting in line with your own personal beliefs, you can develop your sense of yourself as a worthwhile person in the world even further.

Recognize that not everything in life is linear. Sometimes we have to go backward to go forward. Along the way, we have to learn to appreciate what we have, to have gratitude for all life has given us.

Remember to have some fun, and allow fun (and happiness) to be sprinkled throughout your day. Life should not be dreary, so don’t let it be. Surprise yourself and others. Remember to show kindness and compassion to those around you. Try to be a role model to others and behave the way you want others to see you and remember you.

Take one step at a time to discover your individuality. You have a lifetime to improve you 🙂

Lip Scrubs – Do You Really Need it?

Before we talk about the benefits of lip scrubs lets first talk about what they are. Lip scrub is an exfoliating product designed specifically for removing dead skin cells from the sensitive lip area.

What is lip scrubs?

The exfoliant in most lip scrubs is sugar. Sugar is gentle on delicate lip skin but still effective at exfoliating yucky flakes. The emollient and exfoliant work together to moisturize and smooth your lips.

The Body Shop Scents of Life Event

The Body Shop Malaysia had hosted a perfume party of their newest launched perfume called the Scents of Life in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, at Bukit Bintang in conjunction with the Holy Month of Ramadan.

It was indeed a spectacular event and I must give my appreciation and praise to The Body Shop Malaysia team for always coming up with jaw-dropping interior designs when it comes to event launches, making it a perfect place to snap Insta worthy pictures!

The key highlight of the event is to understand more about how perfumery has come about and evolved today. I have learned about the art of mixing perfumes into a signature scent that personates our individuality. The best part of all I got to meet the man behind the Scents of Life fragrances Roger Schmid on how this outburst of mix and match was born.

When we smell a particular fragrance, such as, say, clean laundry or a fresh peach, we instantly and unconsciously connect that smell to a portion of our memory. The smell can evoke feelings and bring back memories that we forgot we had. 

There are 3 essentials of the Scent of Life that consists of 5 different scents in the form of Perfume Oil, Eau De Toilette and Body Mist. There were 15 types of scents in one range! How cool is that!! This new fragrance launch is unique because it allowed media/bloggers/influencers to mix and match the scents to create their own preferred scent.

Moreover, a special guest, Roger Schmid who is the Group Advisor on Innovation shared his experience about the fragrance industry and how Scents of Life was created. He shared the techniques of layering fragrances to have a unique blend that reflects your creativity. It was such a great insight into learning.

I choose ‘My Pick’ body mist because it is more delicate, floral spritz infused with soothing notes of clementine, amber, peony and pear blossom. This body mist is one of their Scents of Life collection, which allowed me to express myself by creating my own unique scent. I mixed and matched them! Felt really good when I created a unique outburst of fragrance, some hidden talent I guess, HA-HA!!

Road-trip to Sea-Life

Unplanned road trips always ends up in beautiful experiences one can ever have, similarly it happened to me when I found myself in Sea Life aquarium for the first time.

SEA LIFE is the world’s largest aquarium brand that will transport you to an underwater world experience. You can find yourself having a close interactions with sharks, sea-horse, stingray, clown fish and many other sea creatures.

During the earlier part of the day, I headed out for lunch at Pizza Hut in Munich. While I was browsing through my phone for the things to do near me, Sea Life popped out. I took this opportunity to explore the underworld creature as this reminded of Aquaria back in Kuala Lumpur. Purchasing the entrance ticket online had made it easier for me, I was able to skip the queue and went in straight through.

The first thing you’ll notice as you walk in is a brief introduction of Sea Life that is children-friendly and very informative for adult too. Next, there will be starfish exhibits alongside many other species and a crawl through tunnel to watch them from an underwater perspective (just like the image of the video image above).

I was rather excited to head over to the tropical ocean tank for blacktip reef, coral reef and sharks. And if you are a parent with kids, you could bring your children to get a closer interactions with some sea creatures by stopping at the interactive rock pool, where your kids can touch a starfish and hold a crab. Let my pictures do you justice!

This is one place you would want to see as you’ll learn a lot about our underwater eco-system and how they live. The Sea-Life in Munich is easy to find at Olympic Park and once you are done, you can chill by the lakeside and enjoy the view and have an easy peaceful day.

Olympic Park is also home to the Olympic Tower which at 292 meters provides a great view of the Munich and the Olympic Stadium which you can also do a tour of.

My Verdict –

A BIG YESS! Sea Life allows you to escape into an interesting underwater world and you will see more than 4000 sea creatures from rivers, lakes and oceans. The aquarium houses these 4000 species in 33 display tanks and ponds. You will NOT not want to miss this chance!
