A Christmas Day Out

It’s officially December! With Christmas looming over us, it’s a great time of the year to spend time together as a family or get away from it all with a last minute break or holiday. December is the most awaited month of the year for me. I like the feel of freshly baked cookies in the house or listening to Christmas songs at the background while putting up the decorations.. everything about December is BE-AUTIFUL!

I promised my little brother I would take him to the city for the sake of delicious pancake and it will be an early Christmas shopping for him, I like planning my days ahead so by the last week of November, I planned our perfect day out to the city of lights – Kuala Lumpur (KL).

To make it even more interesting we decided to travel by the local train all the way to the City to re-live memories as it’s been ages since I last took the inter-city train. (just so you know I usually drive to the city).


We started off our day at the Pancake Shop also known as The Wicked Pancake Parlour as it is the main highlight of our day! With so many social media hype over their food, I had to head down to the place to check it out on my own. It’s a family friendly environment, the ambiance of the place as it’s crafted with good quality of wooden palates as ceiling and wall decor and crates as their bar drinks counter.

Truly this place is pancake heaven for pancake lovers! They have every imaginable yet interesting combination of pancake formula to make you wonder and excites you to try it. We sure had a tough time choosing our pancake, as they had too many choices! Among the names that I could remember is Peter Pandan…. Chocoholics Anonymous but the berry choice does win over always!

We went it for Drew Berry More pancake which is packed with loads of berries from raspberry to blueberry and I could say that it is delicious and light and fluffy pancakes that is like eating clouds with a touch of sourish berries that are macerated and to top it off with some sweet meringue that is truly a marriage of great taste! Well the whole plate was cleaned with no traces of the pancake or berries!

Next stop… Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia generally is all about tourism/seaside and food…more food together with big sky scraper buildings. Especially when there is celebration, the wall…streets and shopping mall are well decorated! Hands down, they look so beautiful.

Since the whole day highlight is my little brother’s wishes, we first went on and played arcade charity Christmas games that support the orphanage home’s wellbeing. So every proceeds from the games go to the betterment of the homes. I felt like I was back in my childhood times, playing the toss ring into the reindeer horn and even throwing the ball to stacks of the can to win some cute miniature bears. When life is so caught up with responsibilities I felt that we are never too old to do goofy stuff.

After our adrenaline was pumped up after the games we went ahead to get started with our shopping. My brother always loved the choice of clothes that are provided in H&M we went ahead to get major stuff done for this young man and teenagers’ choice of fashion is always a fun wear, ….

We ended our day with a much-relaxed environment having some tea and light meal before heading home!

It is always right to put the need of our loved ones before ourselves in this season of love to show that they are appreciated and worthy. I always learn something new when I am out with this fine young man and today I learned that my childhood may be over, but that doesn’t mean playtime is. The best thing we can do for our children is to allow them to do things for themselves, allow them to be strong, allow them to experience life on their own terms, allow them to take the subway… let them be better people, let them believe more in themselves

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas now.


Everyday I Wake Up Like A Boss

Every day, I wake up like a boss. It is said that early morning riser has the highest zeal of motivation throughout the day. Their willpower is at the peak. The most inspiring words I’ve come to read from the internet by the late co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, he once told a graduating class at Stanford: “For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘no’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

There’s a sense of powerlessness when it comes to getting up. Whatever else we’ve overcome in life waking up early has always been a difficult task for some of us. I was lucky in time, my siblings and I were trained to set off at dawn for family prayers.

But before I was trained, I struggled too. Yep, there I said it. I struggled too.

When I was in my pre-teens, I would wake up by 5:00 A.M to pray as a family before my mother would leave for work. Those days, all I could think off is waking up to snuggle up back under the cozy covers, and continue sleeping. I had fallen asleep too many times during prayer time and my mother patiently would wake me up to say the closing prayers.

I woke up at 5:00 the next morning. I forced myself to just do it – stand up and make the bed as quickly as possible, then run into the washroom for a quick fresh up – no chance of climbing back under the cozy covers and straight to the prayer room. I woke up again the next day, and again and again… I try staying awake. I took little steps of efforts and the more I tried, the more it became a lifestyle.

It felt pretty productive! I felt a deeper sense of clear conscious when I am up early. I get to smell the fresh air of the morning breeze brushing through the windows of our condominium. I get to see the sun rising gloriously lighting up the entire sky, the perfect time for meditation, writing, exercise and some quiet reading. It helped me manage my time much better.

Amazingly, a couple of years later, I still wake up around 5 AM and some days I get up slightly later (5:30 AM) and some days even a little earlier, depending on lots of things that are ahead of me and in fact waking early is one of my favorite things in the world. And till today it has become a positive habit that enabled me to grow wiser and have my morning meditation.

I want to say before I dive into the keys of sharing how I did it, take some time to listen to this you-tuber, he has something important to convey.

Here’s how to finally wake up earlier!

  • Setting your alarm 15 minutes before waking up

I will not say its a snooze method but I set my 10-15 minutes earlier (5:15 AM) to train my body and mind that I will be up in the next few minutes and by doing so I am allowing my mind to stay awake and visioned my upcoming day. I do agree sleeping patterns are difficult to change, and so the gradual method works much better.

  • Have a routine established

If you don’t have something to do in the mornings with the extra time you have from waking up early, you’ll find yourself stumbling back to bed out of boredom. Establish a morning routine that you start as soon as you wake up. It could be as simple as starting to:

  1. Meditate. Even just for 3 minutes. It’s such a great way to start your day — doing nothing, just sitting, and practicing mindful focus.
  2. Write. Or do some other kind of creating.
  3. Exercise. Go for a walk or a run, or do a home workout. Even just 10 minutes.

  • Sleeping Earlier

It sounds simple but most of us don’t accurately practice it. You can’t just wake up earlier and not sleep earlier. You’ll eventually crash. I always go to the gym during the day so I find exercising helps a lot earlier in the day. It gets my body nice and tired that makes me sleep better. However tho, don’t exercise an hour or less before bed, or you’ll be pumped up.

  • No computers/devices in bed

That means no laptop, no tablets, no mobile phones, no iPad, No TV either. Just reading. In a world that’s filled with technology, we tend to use our mobile phone constantly even while we lay on the bed. Then we easily check our phone on WA, Instagram, and the widely used media Youtube and eventually our plan to sleep early will back-fail on us and our health. So try to put away your devices across the bed to have self-control on your mobile phones.

last but not least…

  • Get excited for the next day 

The night before, think of one thing you’d like to do in the morning that excites you. It could be something you want to write, or meditation, or something you’d like to read that gets you fired up. In the morning, when you wake up, remember that exciting thing, and that will help motivate you to get up.

I hope this article helps you to at least change your sleeping pattern. Waking up early won’t be easy for your first couple of weeks. Your body needs time to adjust to this new routine. Slowly but surely every step results in success later part in life and waking up earlier get you driven to believe from “I’m not a morning person” to “I’m the type of person who wakes up early”! Not only does it change your behavior but it will eventually change you to be a much-disciplined person. Every day is a beautiful day and it is a gift to admire the wonders of the morning so be sure to not miss them out!
